What Is the Nutritional Foods That I Eat?

Food is any material consumed in order to provide nutrition to the organisms. In the human diet, food is generally of animal, plant or floral origin, and contains necessary nutrients, including proteins, carbohydrates, vitamins, or other minerals. The human body uses energy derived from food to help regulate its functions. The energy that is used to perform the different body functions is referred to as macronutrients.

Many people do not eat enough of the proper food sources to meet their daily requirements. Usually people need more than the calories they take in to perform at their best. There are many foods that provide the vitamins, minerals, and other nutrients that are lacking in a person’s diet. Some of the better sources of these nutrients are fresh fruits and vegetables, fortified milk and eggs, nuts, seeds, and soy products.

Food that provides adequate amounts of vitamins, minerals, and macronutrients may be high in fat, calories, or sugar. In order to keep the weight off and to have a healthy diet, it is important to choose food that is low in fat, sugar, and calories. Low fat dairy products are excellent choices for people trying to maintain their weight. Soy products, nuts, seeds, fruits, vegetables, wheatgerm, beans, lentils, and other grains are all excellent natural sources of protein and micronutrients that are needed to build and repair the body.
